Condition in which sediments are found - substances deposited by the action of gravity, in water or in the air, such as sand - and the rock formations of a given region.

Forced conduit

Conduit used to channel water from the reservoir to the turbines of a hydroelectric plant.

Consortium for electricity generation

Group of different companies with common interests, which organize themselves for the exploitation of electricity generation as a public utility service, exclusive use of consortium members, independent production or for these associated activities, preserving the legal regime pertaining to each.

Water level of the reservoir after filled.

Fixed Schedule of Activities of the National Electric Energy Agency - ANEEL

Planning of activities defined by ANEEL within a timeline for the implementation of a power generation venture.

D

Sustainable development

A form of economic development targeted at improving quality of life. Sustainable development does not promote the depletion of natural resources and recognizes the right of future generations to enjoy Planet Earth.

E

Hillside

Mountain slope, through which rainwater flows (from the rains).

Energy ensured

Amount of energy that can be produced by the system with a pre-fixed guarantee level, calculated according to criteria approved by the National Electric Energy Agency - ANEEL.

Biomass Energy

Electricity produced from the burning of biomass (organic matter, or plant or animal species waste).

Wind power

Electricity produced from the force of the winds. Electricity is produced when a propeller captures the wind and spins, triggering a turbine, which in turn triggers an electricity generator.

Photovoltaic Energy

Electricity produced from the sunrays, through devices that convert sunlight directly into electricity.

Hydroelectric power

Electricity produced from the force of the waters that gravity causes to change in height drop to be converted into electricity, moving a turbine that then drives an energy generator.

Thermal energy

Energy from heat produced by burning fuel, such as coal, oil, natural gas, diesel, and other hydrocarbons as an energy source to boost the electricity generator or from a nuclear reactor.

Rockfill

Massif of stones intended to protect landfills or structures from the effects of erosion caused by the flow of water.

F

River mouth

Point where a river (or other water flows) ends and dumps its waters into the sea, a lake or another river.

G

Genotypes

An individual's set of genes.

Geomorphology

Science that studies the earth’s forms relief.

H

Herbaceous

Related to herbs and other plants.

Hydrogeological

Geology branch studying groundwaters.

Hydro-sediment metric

Regarding the study of sediments dispersed in water that determine the lifetime of reservoirs, silting of the river, loss of fertile soil, etc.

I

Ichthyofauna

Set of fish life in a given region.

Indemnity

Financial or material compensation. Remediation.

J

Downstream

In the case of running waters, points situated in the direction of the current, flowing downstream towards the river mouth.

K

K

K

L

Energy auction

Bidding process for the purchase of electricity, governed by the notice and its related documents.

Groundwater

The soil is composed of rocks and several particles that do not fill all its volume, resulting in empty spaces that can be filled by water, coming from rains, rivers, lakes. This water that seeps into the ground, occupying the empty spaces is called the water table.

Riparian

Region located on the banks of the reservoir or river.

M

Macrophytes

Aquatic macrophytes are plants that grow in water, in soils covered by water, such as swamps, or in soils saturated with water.

Mitigating measures

Measures that aim to reduce, mitigate negative impacts of a venture.

Megawatts (MW)

Unit equivalent to one million Watts - basic power unit.

Megawatts hour (MWh)

Unit equivalent to one megawatt of electricity, supplied or requested per hour or one million Watts-hour.

Upstream

In the case of running waters (rivers, streams, streams), are the points located towards the spring. Flow in the opposite direction to the current, upstream.

N

N

N

O

Water-line operation

Hydroelectric plant that uses the reservoir with the water level virtually without variation. The amount of water entering the reservoir is equal to the amount that comes out.
